Location Privacy
Skyhook respects your privacy and that of your users, customers, employees and partners. We believe that location-determination technologies such as XPS and WPS will provide better access to more relevant information, reduced loss and theft, improved navigation and travel, and more meaningful communications. However, we also understand that your exact physical location is inherently private and that it should only be used in very limited ways over which you have control.
Skyhook is committed to leading the way in the development, implementation and maintenance of responsible and meaningful privacy controls. This commitment includes:
Corporate Policies and Procedures
Privacy Questions and Answers
Explains how Skyhook's technology works and how we maintain a private and secure system.
Corporate Privacy Policy
Skyhook's official corporate policy on how location data is used and why.
Partner and Customer Cooperation
We work closely with partners and customers to understand the impact of incorporating location as a feature into both new and existing applications. For example, we helped the AOL Instant Messenger team, update their AIM Privacy Policy when they launched the AIM Location Plug-in.
Industry Involvement
Skyhook also works with industry, developer and advocacy groups to develop responsible policies, regulations, procedures and best practices for privacy and location management. These groups include CTIA, Congressional Internet Caucus Advisory Committee, and Locationaware.org.
